THE LABOUR ROOM MENTALITY

I saw this wonderful and beautiful piece of write up and could not help but share it here. There are a few modification to suite the focus of this blog.

There are some things in life that can’t wait. The calls of nature or sleep for instance will often push you for immediate response. They refuse to respect or respond to the dignity of your office or the solemnity of the occasion. When they come, it is in your best interest to resolve them before you proceed to the less important things. But often these natural priorities can be readjusted and accommodated in man’s ever busy schedule.

There is one exception to this rule. When a woman gets into labour everything else MUST wait. Can you imagine a woman in the pangs of labour worrying about her burning pot of soup? Can you imagine her worrying that the laundry is not done? Can you imagine her worrying about the Asoebi for the party she wants to attend by the weekend? As important as these things may be to her, when she gets into the labour room, they will all have to wait.

Recently, National Geographic showed the incredible clip of a deer in the grasslands of Kenya as it got caught in labour beside a flowing river. The deer was running away from a forest fire, probably set by local hunters.  Just as the labour pains intensified, she spotted a lion stalking her from the right side, and now on her left emerged a hunter with his dane gun carefully taking aim. Hemmed in on one side by a natural boundary, on the other side by a natural disaster and surrounded by two natural predators, where would this deer turn to? What will this deer do? Will the fawn be safely delivered? Or will mother and offspring provide dinner for man or lion?

What was most memorable about the video clip was the labour room mentality of the deer. It seemed to have accepted its fate to die, but even death itself MUST WAIT until she has birthed her baby, her dream baby. So the deer settled down and did what every pregnant woman or animal considers topmost priority.

Then the most unbelievable series of events took place in quick succession. The hunter was ready to pull the trigger and at that same moment, a flash of lightening and the most terrifying peal of thunder broke out from the dark clouds that has threatened all day. He missed the deer but shot the lion and the rain doused the fires. The man videoing  the scene stopped the hunter from taking a second shot. So the deer and fawn lived. Providence.

As impossible as it seems, life will always find a way to support you when you stay focused on the child you are called to deliver.  This year do you have a dream to actualize? A brainchild to birth? A target to meet? Can you see the office/business as your labour room? What are the natural disasters behind you? What is the natural boundary limiting your progress? What are the natural predators stalking and aiming at you?

Close your eyes. Take a deep breath….P-U-S-S-S-S-S-S-H-H-H!....  P-U-U-S-S-S-S-S-S-H-H-H!!

The woman in labour is focused on delivering her child. That is all that counts. What is your child? Please don’t get distracted.

Remember, great success happens in the moment, moment by moment.

See you at the top!!!
