Entrepreneurship is an act of self-employment. It involves venturing into your own kind of business by way of starting, managing producing, developing your own kind of products and services. It is also an act of owning your own kind of establishment and managing it by utilizing what is on your inside in providing a particular service tailored to the need of a particular group of people or the populace for a financial reward. Entrepreneurship is a powerful instrument that could be used to reduce, if not eradicate poverty and unemployment. The greatness of a nation is determined by the maximum utilization of intellectual capital and material resources of such a country. Unemployment results in poverty, want, hunger and starvation which are products of undeveloped, and un-informed brain. Poverty exists because we cannot fully integrate into our system the culture of optimal utilization of our intellectual capital which leads to productivity which is the engine that drives global growth.
"Those who create new knowledge are producing wealth while those who consume it are producing poverty."
Poverty will be reduced when intellectual capital is increased and leveraged to export knowledge and idea. intellectual capital here is defined as, "the collective knowledge (mental, physical, social and financial capital) of the people, that increases productivity." It is also needed to produce products and services which will lead to the path of poverty alleviation.
Ideas not money alleviate poverty. Therefore if we must break away from this poverty vicious circle, the only way out is to look inward, develop our mental and material resources to increase our self-reliance and through entrepreneurship, stir up creativity in us. The state of the economy today shows that self-employment is the immediate answer and self-employment opportunities abound in products and services which is inside us and must come out of us.
